Teaching Youngsters How to Read

In my school we have always had an issue with teaching struggling students how to read. As a third grade teacher, it has always amazed me that students come to me not knowing how to read. Why is that? This year our district put a lot of money and emphasis on improving reading instruction for these students. New programs were purchased and teachers received thorough training. The results are fabulous~students are actually reading! And enjoying it!!!!!!!
